Tyra's Book of the Week

Beautiful Disaster
by Jamie McGuire

Nothing paranormal, but everything a girl wants and needs in a good read! I found myself laughing until my husband thought I was crazy, and crying until he KNEW I was crazy! Such a beautifully written story about two people finding their way in life, friendship and love.

Goodreads Description:

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Unforgiven. A Forbidden Bond Novel by Cat Miller
A few of my favorite quotes so far....

1. "In the few moments that Derek and Brandi had been listening for danger from the hallway and talking, Nate had talked Kerrie straight out of her panties".

2. "Funny that she was waiting for the end of her life and they were calmly discussing the ins and outs of vampire politics. Assholes."

3. "Nobody wanted two hundred and twenty pounds of pissed off vampire in their face."

A Significance Novel Series by Shelly Crane

Quite the story! Very glad to have stumbled upon the series. I found myself captivated, and unable to put it down! The editing is lacking, and some early passages are a little rushed, but I LOVED IT! This story leaves you always wanting more, which... I'd like to have more of by the way... young love, needs more moments to explore! If you're even slightly inclined to the paranormal romance, you will adore this series. Im currently heart broken, as Ive only recently become hooked, and have many months ahead of me until the next book is released. I can recognize myself in many of the characters, and many situations. I also, named my new pet cat after Caleb, the primary male role. It seemed only fitting considering that our dog is named Bella... this is something touched on in the book, and made me laugh out loud! I love how this series is in the here and now, and acknowledges the current pop-culture trends, while remaining true to "old-fashioned" virtue! Can't wait for more!! And be sure to read the next book in the series "Accordance"! It just keeps getting better!

The third installment in the Significance Series "Defiance" is due out March 2013, and I for one can't WAIT! Pick up your copies of these wonderful books on  Shelly crane on Facebook & Blogspot

Amazon Description:  Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating, barely, and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football schalorship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has. Then she meets Caleb. She saves his life and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing but she is supposed to be on her way to a date with his cousin. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally. They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive. Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him. Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?

Jess' Book of the Week

Goodreads Description:

Sixteen year old Arelia LaRue lives in New Orleans where the music is loud, voodoo queens inhabit every street corner, and the ghosts are alive and well. Despite her surroundings, all she wants is to help her Grand-mere Bea pay the rent and save up for college.

When her best friend Sabrina convinces her to take a well-paying summer job at the infamous Darkwood plantation, owned by the wealthy LaPlante family, Arelia agrees.

However, at Darkwood strange things start to happen, and gorgeous Lucus LaPlante insists that he needs her help. Soon, the powers that Arelia has been denying all her life, come out to play and she discovers mysteries about herself that she could have never imagined.

I would like to to start by saying that the last 3-4 books that I have read in this genre have been quite disappointing. So when I came across this book (which was free at the time yippee!) I was pleasantly surprised!

From the moment I started it was next to impossible to for me to put down. It was such a breath of fresh air amongst the slew of YA adult releases. There is mystery, intrigue and a tragic love story that will keep you up all hours of the night to see what the characters hold in store!

The story is set in the beautiful and haunting New Orleans. With old magic and spirits floating around noting seems impossible. Arelia, are main character has been hearing spirits her whole life only now will listening to them hold the key to the freedom and peace that she longs for.

This friends is a MUST read!

Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

In Ridley’s wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could.

A haunting stranger that watched her from afar, Bo stole Ridley’s heart from the moment she laid eyes on him. But he has secrets. Bo’s a vampire. Both his past and his present are a danger to Ridley, but the biggest threat is not her blood; it’s her heart. He’s feeding a thirst for revenge that will cost him his life, and it may already be too late.

The more darkness Ridley uncovers, the more she realizes that her life will never be the same—with or without Bo. Can she sacrifice her future and her heart for someone who has a death wish?

Welcome!!

Hello and welcome to the slow-roll of Book-Snobs! Jessica and I have been talking about getting this started for what feels like forever now. We're both new to the world of blogging but are confident that we shall find our way eventually. She and I are beyond excited to share with you the dozens (hundreds) of books that keep us entertained on a daily basis. We're hoping to have the majority of reviews in video format so that you can just click and watch! We call ourselves "book snobs" because like most avid readers, we have very specific preferences in our reading material. We both gravitate toward the young-adult paranormal romances, but I'm certainly not above throwing in something a little different from time to time. Miss Jessica also has a beautiful little girl who will hopefully be contributing to our page with her own reviews from time to time and personally, I just can't wait to see what her bright young mind has to bring to the table!

Just to give you a quick play-by-play of how all this started let me tell you about how a girl named Tyra in dreary Ohio and a girl named Jessica in North Carolina got to be here....

It's pretty simple really. We found each other via what else but Facebook! Having "liked" several of the same authors, we found we also shared a love for The Vampire Diaries (TVD as it will often be referenced by the two of us) and soon found that we had so much in common that it just made sense! No, we've never met. And yes, we live in different states but hey! That's the beauty of the internet right?? So after solidifying our e-friendship, here we are... ready to share the inner workings of our fantasy riddled brains with anyone willing to read/watch!

We really hope that you'll enjoy our blog, tell your friends, family, neighbors, strangers you meet on the street, and of course give us all the feedback you can think of! Thank you for your time and blessed reading to you all!
